Compliance gates
Turn on compliance gates so required forms hold back starting a day, closing a phase or completing a job until they are done.
Compliance gates make required forms hold work back until they are done. Each form's gate decides what it holds back. With gates off, forms are still added to jobs and can be completed, but nothing waits for them.
What each gate holds back
Only required forms that are still outstanding hold anything back. Submitted and waived forms, optional forms and inspections never do.
| Gate | Holds back |
|---|---|
| Pre-start | Starting work on the job that day. In the field app, Start the clock opens the form instead of starting. Time can't be recorded on the job for that day. |
| Milestone | Close phase for the phase the form belongs to. |
| Finalise | Completing the job. |
| Inspection | Nothing. |
A milestone form whose phase has been removed from the job no longer holds anything back.
Turn gates on or off
Open Preferences
Go to Settings → Preferences. You need Company: Edit, which only the Owner role has unless you change it.
Switch it on
In Jobs & products, turn on Compliance forms block work until they are done.
Save
Select Save Preferences.
While gates are off, a job's Compliance tab shows Gates off — forms block nothing yet.
Complete a job with a form outstanding
When you complete a job with a required finalise form outstanding, the completion window lists it under This job is not ready to close. If the job really must close, someone with Jobs: Edit can enter a reason and select Close anyway. The override and its reason are recorded on the job.
If the form doesn't apply, it's usually better to waive it with a reason.
Troubleshooting
“Complete the … before starting work on this job today”
A required pre-start for today hasn't been done. Complete it in the field app or on the job's Compliance tab, or waive it if it doesn't apply.
“… needs the … completed before it closes”
A required milestone form for that phase is outstanding. Complete or waive it on the job's Compliance tab.
“This job needs the … completed before it can close”
A required finalise form is outstanding. Complete it, waive it, or use Close anyway with a reason.
